New Class of CMOS Chips To Address Quantum Computing Bottlenecks
ECE Associate Professor Cristian Cassella and Professor Marvin Onabajo are developing CMOS-based chips that are smaller and more energy efficient than current technology used to address quantum computing bottlenecks. High school students in Northeastern’s Young Scholars program will participate in this project.

ECE Professor Hossein Mosallaei’s paper “Active Metasurfaces for Non‐Rigid Light Sail Interstellar Optical Communication” which was published in Advanced Theory and Simulations, was ranked within the top 10% of most-viewed papers published by the journal in 2023.

Graduate Student Team Wins First Place at National Geothermal Competition
At the 2024 Geothermal Collegiate Competition, organized by the Department of Energy, the Husky Heat Harvesters team of students from the Northeastern University Energy Systems Society won first place in the technical track and an honorable mention for the best video.

MIE Professor and Chair Yingzi Lin’s paper on “Isolating the Impact of Masked Perceptual Attacks on Attention in Mixed Reality” won the Best Paper Award in the Human Factors & Ergonomics (HF/E) track at the IISE Annual Conference & Expo 2025.
