Junwei Huang

About

Junwei is a leader in data science and machine learning with a proven record of delivering dependable insights to drive business effectively. Currently he works as a principal data scientist for Mastercard where he oversees technology development within the data science team as well as leading projects such as Named Entity Recognition and Anomaly Detection to enhance products. Prior to Mastercard, he was a senior data scientist at RBC, where he has built multiple deep learning-based recommendation models for finance and insurance products. He also explored contextual multi-armed bandit model (reinforcement learning) to replace classic recommendation models.

Before RBC, Junwei was a data scientist at Scotiabank, where he has built scalable ETL pipeline to enrich data for Anti-Money Laundry and financial crimes.

Early in his career, Junwei worked as a software developer and senior technical consultant for over 7 years, where he supervised a small team to deliver world-class software product to global users.
Junwei had a PhD in Geophysics and a MSc in Computer Science. When he is not crunching data, he likes to spend time with family and friends and play frisbee with his Labrador retriever.
