CEE Student Receives GEM Engineering Fellowship

Nazira Cisse, E’24, environmental engineering, received a Graduate Education for Minorities (GEM) PhD Engineering Fellowship, which funds graduate studies in science and engineering for outstanding students from underrepresented communities. The fellowship was designed to focus on promoting opportunities for individuals to enter industry at the graduate level in such disciplines as research and development and product development, or other high level technical careers.

A first-generation Ivorian American from the Bronx, Cisse is passionate about creating environmental justice solutions for marginalized individuals. While an undergraduate at Northeastern, Cisse was a program director for Engineers Without Borders in Guatemala. She completed co-ops or internships at the Department of Energy, WEACT for Environmental Justice, AKF, and the ACLU. She also earned several Northeastern research awards. Cisse is currently pursuing a master’s degree in the management of technology at New York University as a GEM Fellow.
