Abowd Receives ACM SIGCHI Special Recognition Award

Gregory D. Abowd, dean of the College of Engineering and professor of electrical and computer engineering, received the Association of Computing Machinery Special Interest Group on Computer-Human Interaction (ACM SIGCHI) Special Recognition Award “for his extraordinary ability to inspire and mentor individuals from diverse backgrounds and his commitment to fostering collaboration, creativity, and impact.”

The Special Recognition Award celebrates and honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the field of human-computer interaction (HCI) in ways that may not be fully captured in other ACM SIGCHI awards.

ACM SIGCHI awards recognize exceptional achievements across multiple categories including research excellence, practical impact, and contributions to society. Selection is highly competitive, drawing from over 5,000 SIGCHI members. Each awardee has demonstrated remarkable contributions to the field. Awardees’ achievements will be celebrated at the ACM CHI 2025 conference in Yokohama, Japan in April 2025.
